Chrono Trigger Mixtape, Vol. 1

This is a huge late pass, but I just stumbled upon the Chrono Trigger Mixtape, Vol. 1 that was produced in 2005. It’s set to some random hip-hop songs, but the beats are pretty seamless and most people unfamiliar with the Chrono Trigger OST probably wouldn’t have guessed that the samples in this mixtape were sourced from a video game made in 1995.

Yasunori Mitsuda - Gato’s Song (set to 50 Cent’s Disco Inferno) (3:16)

Yasunori Mitsuda - At the Bottom of the Night (set to Kanye West and Talib Kweli’s Get ‘Em High) (5:16)

Rappers’ thoughts on the recession

I bookmarked this XXL Mag blurb that compiled quotes from rappers’ about their thoughts on the economic recession, and only got around to reading it now. There’s a goldmine of interesting things to infer and discuss from these responses, but I’ll just leave you with some of the ones I found most striking.

Buckshot: “There is no such thing as a recession, the recession is an illusion. And people like Buckshot and Steve Jobs and Bill Clinton and Bill Gates and all of these other people that deal with corporate business, we all know that it’s an illusion, it’s a scare tactic and it’s meant to do what it’s been doing to people.”

Here’s another gem:

Tru Life: “Oh nah, that shit [recession] ain’t touched me not a bit. It ain’t a game man. I just bought 4 or 5 brand new black cars and only because I felt like the haters thought I was doing bad or something. Now it looks like a funeral when I pull up. They just saw me being humble, I’m a real humble dude. You know I live by my needs, I don’t really live outside of my needs.”

Grace, you’re blowin’ up my spot

I don’t care that Battlestar Galactica is over; this is still relevant to our (my) interests.

Final Fantasy XIII english extended trailer

I’m always excited for a new Final Fantasy game that’s debuting on a next-gen system but, to be quite honest, I haven’t finished a game in the series since X-2 (and that hardly counts since the difficulty was practically nonexistent).

Sensor cleaning

After a year of handling my camera in random outdoor environments, I’ve only recently begun to notice the dust accumulation on my Canon 5D’s CMOS sensor. It took four swabs (at $4 a piece!) to get it as clean as you can see in the lower photograph; that grime must have been smeared and pretty deep into the outer layer of the sensor.

Kashiwa Mystery Cafe

It’s a pop-up cafe that serves you what the last person ordered.

  1. Let’s treat the next person. What to treat them with? It’s your choice.
  2. Even if it’s a group of friends or a family, please form a single-file line. Also, you can’t buy twice in a row.
  3. Please enjoy what you get, even if you hate it. (If you really, really hate it, let’s quietly give it to another while saying, “It’s my treat…”)
  4. Let’s say “Thank You! (Gochihosama)” if you find the person with your Ogori cafe card.
  5. We can’t issue a receipt.

I really like the element of surprise here; it’s like the excitement of getting a present and not knowing what’s inside the box.
